A Day in the Life of a Home-Based Reseller (Bins, Boxes & All)
TLDR

Ever wonder what happens between the estate sale and your doorstep? A peek at a real day behind Ladybug Finds — sourcing, sorting, photographing, and packing, right from the garage.

Ever wonder what actually happens between "spotted at an estate sale" and "arrived on your doorstep"? Running a resale business from home looks a little different than you might picture — less boutique, more bins. Here's an honest walk through a typical day.

Coffee First, Then Offers

The day starts at the kitchen table with coffee and a phone full of notifications. Overnight likes, offers, and questions all get answered first thing. A quick reply can be the difference between a sale and a shopper who moved on, so this part never waits.

The Morning Hunt

A couple of mornings each week are for sourcing. That might mean a favorite thrift store the moment the doors open, an estate sale across town, or a neighborhood garage sale that popped up overnight. The rule: only pick up something we'd genuinely be happy to bring into our own home. It keeps the standard high and the bins (mostly) under control.

Back Home: The Sorting Table

Everything from the trunk gets emptied onto the sorting table in the garage. Each piece gets a close inspection — seams, zippers, soles, tags, sniff test and all. Items that pass get cleaned, steamed, or scrubbed, then sorted into labeled bins so nothing gets lost. Anything that doesn't make the cut gets donated right back.

Chasing the Light

Photos happen wherever the natural light is best, which changes with the season and, honestly, the weather. Every item gets shot from all angles, flaws included. Showing the one small mark up front means a buyer is never surprised, and that's how you earn repeat customers.

Evenings: List, Pack, Porch

Once the house quiets down, it's listing time — writing descriptions, measuring, pricing, and cross-posting to our platforms. Sold items get wrapped with care (and usually a thank-you note), boxed, and stacked by the door for tomorrow's mail run. There's no prettier sight than a porch pile of outgoing packages.

Why We Keep at It

Some days it's chaotic. The garage is never as tidy as we'd like, and the to-do list never really ends. But every rehomed treasure means one less thing in a landfill and one more person who found exactly what they wanted for less. That feeling — the happy dance when something perfect finds its person — is the whole reason Ladybug Finds exists.
